My teacher, when I took college chemistry in high school, gave me an acronym to remember the seven diatomic elements by:

 

Have - Hydrogen

No - Nitrogen

Fear - Fluorine

Of - Oxygen

Ice - Iodine

Cold - Chlorine

Beer - Bromine

 

The last word...you can modify if you do not like the word "beer" but it helps :).
