Comparisons in Spanish

When comparing things of unequal significance, use "más/ menos + que."

I like weight lifting more than ice skating. Me gusta levantar pesos más que patinar sobre hielo.

When comparing two things of equal significance, use the construction "tan + como"

Eduardo es tan alto como Juan. Eduardo is as tall as Juan.

There are a few exceptions to the "tan + como" construction. The presence of the word "as" does not always warrant the use of the conparative construction or the word "como."

Por más apetitosa que parezca, no voy a comer esa hamburgesa. As appetizing as it may seem, I am not going to eat that hamburger.
