I'm a creative, versatile, and enthusiastic educator with 17 years’ experience teaching students of all ages in math, English, history, and other subjects.
I have Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English (University of Washington ’98, Southern Illinois University ’07) and have taught composition, creative writing, and media studies at the university level, both in person and online.
I've been tutoring since 1999, primarily in math and English, working with elementary school, middle school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate students.
For the last 3 years, I've also worked part-time at a local YMCA, where I mentor at-risk youth and teach creative writing to children and teens in the Y Writers program, which I founded in 2013.
As an author, screenwriter, musician, and former radio personality, I bring a wide variety of life experience to my teaching, and pride myself on figuring out fun, innovative ways to relate to students and help them learn.
My approach to education is a positive, nurturing one, building confidence in my students by treating them with respect and addressing the whole person, not just the academic side. If my students enjoy learning from me as much as I enjoy teaching them, I'll have achieved my goal.
